August Qualifier Update

Hello Drill Teams!

I hope that you are all doing well and are starting to get back together and practice. The August qualifier is only 10 weeks away! Currently everything is still on schedule and we should be seeing all of you August 15-16 in Okeechobee, FL.

Due to the cancellation of the May qualifier we will be having 4 judges at this event and they will be awarding 2 sets of placings. (Judges A & B will be totaled for 1 set of placings and Judges C & D will be totaled for a second set of placings.) This means that attending this one event will qualify you for the State Championships in November. So, if there was a class you didn’t enter in February, but want to participate in now, please sign up. It’s also a great opportunity for any new teams that want to join SSMDTA and it sounds as if we may have 3 new teams participating with us in August! Yeah!

I will be sending out a revised entry form soon for this event, but the entry fees will be going up to $20/rider/class in order to cover both sets of judges.

As usual, we are encouraging all teams to participate in the Compulsory class – pattern is already set, you just have to perform it at your gait(s) of choice. Quick note to those teams that completed in this class in February … please review the pattern. All teams are supposed to be doing the same pattern. Specifically look at the: Figure 8 – you must complete a figure 8 before exiting the move, so you end up doing 3 loops; Pinwheel – one side is required to stop to allow the other side to catch up for the whip; Turn after the Weave – this is a turn to the long side of the arena, not the short; Turn through and Pair Up (on the diagonal right before the end) – don’t forget to Pair up. If you have any questions about the pattern, please ask Nichole or I.

We are still planning to have a clinic within this show. I’d like to give each team two one-hour sessions with a judge and the fee would be $100. Please let me know how many of you would be interested in participating in this so we can continue planning.

Looking forward to seeing you all in August.

May Qualifier CANCELLED

Hello Teams!

Due to the Covid-19 Virus and all the “out of the norm” things going on in the world right now, we are cancelling the May 2-3 Qualifier in Newberry, Florida.

Please mark your calendars for the August 15-16 qualifier in Okeechobee, FL. Instead of trying to reschedule May, the August show will be a double qualifier. We are working on the details of the best way to accomplish this as we also planned to have mini-clinic for the teams to have some one-on-one time with the judges.

As soon as we have all those details worked out, it will be sent out to everyone.

In the meantime, please stay safe.

May Qualifier Still on Schedule

Hello Teams!

The facility where we are hosting our May qualifier posted on Facebook last night that we are still on the schedule, but all of their April events have been cancelled.

For those of you who were looking for hotel rooms, the UF Commencement has been cancelled so rooms should be opening up.

We are remaining fluid with the planning for this show because things are changing so rapidly in our world today. As we get closer to the show, we will see what adjustments (if any) need to be made to our show format to keep everyone safe and healthy.

If you have any specific concerns you would like addressed, please email me at SSMDTA@hotmail.com and I’ll take care of that for you.

Thanks!

Covid-19 and May Qualifier Update

Hello Teams!

We hope that you are all doing well during this pandemic and all the changes going on with the Covid-19 Virus.

First of all … remember we are all in this together and teams support each other. If you are in an area of the state and cannot get items, let us know, perhaps another team can get them and transfers can be arranged. Sorry, I’m not hunting TP down for anyone. LOL! If you’re in need, post it for us to assist or send an email to us at SSMDTA@hotmail.com and we’ll put the word out. We want all our people and equine partners to be safe and have what they need during this time of uncertainty.

Secondly, I just got off the phone with the facility in Newberry for our May qualifier. As of today, the May Qualifier is going ahead as scheduled, but all these plans are fluid and subject to change. Currently, the facility is allowed to hold events with a maximum of 50 people through April 15th. There are no restrictions on people for May 2-3 yet, but nobody really knows what the next month will bring. We may have to get creative with our schedule if that restriction extends to our time period.

We are still struggling with the hotel room situation, but all the Covid-19 details has pushed that to the background for the moment.

As we know more, we will publish it and keep everyone up-to-date. Again, let us know if there’s anything we can do to assist during this time of need and we’ll all get through it together.

Thank you!

Membership Deadline Today

Today is the deadline for 2020 Annual membership in SSMDTA. I have received paperwork/payment from 5 teams:

  • After Shock
  • Hearts For Horses
  • The Outsiders
  • The Renegades
  • Silk & Sable

Also, as you’re thinking about what classes to enter for the February competition, you may be wondering if there’s going to be any competition in your class.

Here’s what I know with just 3 of the 5 teams reporting in …

  • Compulsory – 3 entries
  • Short Program – 3 entries
  • Novice Quad – 1 entry
  • Youth Quad – 1 entry
  • Open Quad – 3 entries
  • Open Freestyle – 1 entry
  • Novice Theme – 1 entry
  • Youth Theme – 1 entry
  • Open Theme – 3 entries
  • Open Rodeo – 1 entry

Entry forms are due by January 27, so you have time to finalize what classes you’d like to participate in.

Remember at the Florida State Fair we are considered entertainment. Compulsory & Short Program will be team shirt/jeans, but all other classes are costumed; however, only the 3 Theme classes will stand for a formal inspection and have that on their scoresheet.

Let us know if you have any questions.
